Jessie James Decker talks Secret Escapes contest, travel tips and new music

Your last EP was “The Woman I’ve Become”. Is there a song you are most proud of?

Most likely [the title track] “The woman I have become.” I’ve never written anything so vulnerable before. I generally like to write fun, happy songs or confident songs, and I never write anything too emotional or deep. I feel like as an artist, sometimes my job is to bring fun and joy. And sometimes I find it hard to be vulnerable. But for the first time, I was vulnerable. And it was hard for me to release the song, but I did, and I’m proud of it. And I’m all the more proud of it because it seemed to touch a lot of people.

What was it like trying something new and then seeing the response?

You never know how people will react. I remember being very anxious about releasing it and not really knowing what people were going to think or say. But once the reaction was so amazing and so special, it felt good to me. Honestly, it was therapeutic for me and made me feel like I could release more vulnerable songs, and people appreciate that.

Absolutely. Are there any upcoming projects you are currently working on that you can tell us about?

I have another cookbook in the works and I will have a rum cocktail recipe in it. So I’m very, very excited about this book. My cocktails seemed to be very, very popular last time, so I’m happy to add more. And of course, Malibu is one of my favorites, so it will be fantastic to include it. But I also have more music coming out. Expect something really cool in July.
