Silly football fans miss seeing France play after traveling to the wrong country – world news

Six sorry football fans missed seeing world champion France play after traveling to the wrong country.

For the first time, the European Championships were dispersed in different cities breaking with tradition.

The move has so far proved popular, but a group of French fans have found themselves wishing that all matches were in one place.

The Blues played Saturday in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

The unfortunate colleagues boarded a flight to the match and instead traveled to Bucharest – the Romanian capital, over 500 miles away.

The supporters did not realize their terrible mistake until a few hours after their arrival.

Travel error meant they were 500 miles away

They befriended football fans at the airport and followed them into the city center – but had not indicated that they were supporting Ukraine, not Hungary.

The Ukrainians were in the city ahead of their country’s Group C game against Austria a few days later.

“We thought it was Hungarian fans going to the match and we followed them, thinking that since they were coming from the city, they knew the way to the stadium,” one of the French fans told Jurnalul National.

“It soon becomes more and more clear that we were not where we need to be.”

Another of the six supporters says they will all learn a valuable lesson.

“It’s like we’re in the movie Home Alone!” He told Jurnalul.

“This is the first time that we have visited this part of Europe. To be honest, for me, until today there was no difference between Bucharest and Budapest. We need to learn more about Europe.

At least they didn’t miss their team which put on a great show.

French superstars Kylian Mbappe, N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba were unable to produce their scoring display as they drew 1-1 with underdogs Hungary.

They follow with a 2-2 draw against Portugal on Wednesday.

France and its fans hope better on Monday night when they face Switzerland, which seeks to qualify for the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.

Coach Didier Deschamps says there is more to come from his side.

He said: “In terms of points, we are first. Maybe other teams made a better impression than the France team but now it’s a new competition that begins.

“The first game against Germany was really important for us and winning that point against Hungary allowed us even before this game to qualify but as I told the players we don’t want to do any calculations because we don’t want to take risks.

“We saw that everything could change very quickly in this group. Of course, we haven’t done everything right all the time and there are some things we can improve.
