Strong Enrollment in Comox Valley Kindergarten Elective Programs

Regular kindergarten registration takes place between January 31 and February 4

School District 71 is already seeing a strong response to enrollment in programs of choice.

These kindergarten options opened on January 24, and many families immediately enrolled their children in the programs.

“In the first four minutes, we had 75 results for enrollment in these programs of choice,” Deputy Superintendent Geoff Manning told the board at the Jan. 25 meeting.

At the time of the meeting, the district had 92 responses for French Immersion Kindergarten, as well as 54 for Montessori. With regular kindergarten and all programs included, the district expects about 590 students to enter the public school system next year.

This is the time of year for parents to enroll their children in kindergarten, and for the district, it is important to provide information to make projections for the upcoming school year. Regular kindergarten enrollment runs from January 31 to February 4.

“It gives us a really good idea to see if we’re going to hit our targets or not,” Manning said. “We will monitor these numbers. Hope they arrive as expected.

The district also has enrollment starting in early February for Late French Immersion, and late February or early March for Navigate Program Kindergarten (NIDES) Compass and Fine Arts eCademy (FAe) Kindergarten.
